NBA Coaching Tactics - Playoffs Round 1 (2019)

Milwaukee Bucks - Hand-off & PnR Spain action

Coach Mike Budenholzer started game 1 vs the Pistons with this play. Stagger screen for 2 & back screen for 1 to start the action, then DHO to 3 and Spain pick n' roll action.

Orlando Magic - Cross screens & Low post action (re-screen)

Simple and quick play by coach Steve Clifford. Cross screens initiate the action, then 4 gets the ball low. 5 re-screens 1, who makes a change of direction and gets free at the wing.

Denver Nuggets - Ram screen slip & Veer screen

A really effective ram screen variation from coach Mike Malone. 5 slips and sets a veer screen for a shooter (4), while 3 sets a turnout screen for 2 on the other side to provide 1 with another passing option.

Philadelphia 76ers - Elbow scissors cut action

One of the many options coach Brett Brown runs in his Elbow series. Having Joel Embiid at the elbow, 2 & 3 make a scissor cut. 3 penetrated and 5 cuts to the basket.

Detroit Pistons - Stagger loop

A great misdirection play from coach Dwane Casey. Starting from a 1-4 set, the designated shooter (2) clears to the corner while the ball is swung to the opposite side. 4 sets a fake flex for 2 and quickly gets open at the top through a stagger by 1 & 5. 2 runs along the baseline and when 3 begins to clear out, he gets open through a stagger by the bigs. It's crucial that 1 dribbles to the wing, in order to create space for 2.
