Regular Season games
11/29/2018: Real Madrid - CSKA Moscow 88-93
(Campazzo 23, Rudy 18, Reyes 10 - Higgins 24, Clyburn 18, DeColo 15)
In an uptempo game with a great number of possesions for both teams, the russian side had 19 assists and 58% from the arc (15/26), to go along with 4 more total rebounds.
2/8/2019: CSKA Moscow - Real Madrid 82-78
(DeColo 21, Higgins 15, Hackett 14 - Randolph 20, Ayon 11, Prepelic 10)
The spanish team had a 6 point advantage at halftime (34-40), mainly because they made shots in the paint (they finished with 25/41 - 61%), but CSKA reacted in the second half, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds and making their free throws (21/25).
Key points to win the game
1. Both teams play in a fast tempo, with Real having more options in transition and CSKA targeting a bit more in their set plays. The spaniards are one of the best defensive teams the current season, so it's up to the russians to make it tough for them to score too.
2. Offensive rebounding, an area where coach's Itoudis team is much better (11,3 per game vs 10 per game for Real Madrid).
3. Pick n' roll defense on Llull & Campazzo for CSKA vs Sergio Rodriguez & DeColo for Real. These four guards are hte ones to run the action and make decisions which will judge the outcome of the game. DeColo had a gret series against Baskonia for the play-offs and should be the main target defensively for the spanish side.
4. The X-factors
- Real Madrid: Sharpshooter Jaycee Carroll, maybe the best catch n' shoot player in European competition. He has the ability to score instantly out of the bench, even if he hasn't played a single minute deep in the game. Also, Walter Tavares, who got the "defensive player of the year
award. He's creating many problems offensively and defensively due to his size.
- CSKA Moscow: Two way guard Daniel Hackett, who should combine his defensive pressure with a scoring effort and Sergio Rodriguez, who didn't play well in the two regular season games against his former team. He'll be ready to prove that he's important in crucial games like this.
